Today we had Matt and his father Keith down from Massachusetts for some NJ Striper action. When guys come from a premier Striped Bass destination to fish on my boat there is a certain amount of self imposed pressure. They were expert anglers and needed no instruction on how to catch their own bait and how to subsequently fight a large fish. It was a real pleasure having them onboard for one of the better charters of the year. With 4 of us working together we caught our bait in no time and were first to the fishing grounds. We were instantly rewarded with a Striper over 30 lbs. and it was actually deformed, it was missing part of his nose (check out the picture)and the fish kept biting all day. We were all very happy about today’s awesome fishing and they immediately booked a return trip for this Fall. One of the better charters we’ve had in a long time.
I am now officially booking charters for the Fall Striped Bass run, originally I thought I might be travelling but that’s not the case anymore. We have pretty much the whole month of November available now but these dates will disappear in a heartbeat.
This is some of the most exciting fishing in the Northeast. Imagine big football field size schools of bait getting crashed by big fish from below and birds from above. There have been many books written about the fall Striper migration in the NE, it is a magical time to be a fisherman with many fish coming to the boat on an average day. This is something you need to experience if you haven’t before. Fishing is best from Halloween thru the end of November. After that we will take a break for December and move the boat to South Florida for the winter, although we are not accepting reservations for this just yet.
