Sunday Bass 11/17/2013

A rare Sunday trip with Mike and Andrew, we ran to the South and the fishing was wide open with Bass boiling on the surface right from the start. We caught our legal limit, turned around and drove back in pea soup fog and now we’re watching football. It should always be this easy!

Striped Bass arrive in real numbers! 11/13/2013

Monday was the day we’ve been waiting for for weeks, the Bass turned up in our waters in huge numbers and were blowing up on the surface on bait. Also in the mix were gigantic Bluefish. Pretty much every boat I talked to caught their legal limit in short order and left the fish biting–it was an day affair. It was so good that Cameron and his friends decided to stay an extra day (Tuesday) to do it again. Well, our intentions were good but we left at the crack of dawn and within an hour the wind ripped around out of the North and it started snowing and blowing 30 mph, creating monster seas in an instant. Dig this, in the 40 minutes we fished we caught 4 Bass before the sun even came up. I cannot wait to fish tomorrow and Friday. The Bass are here, and hopefully they stay here.

Stripers and Blues 11/6/2013

It was not the best day of fishing, but not nearly the worst. We had a small window of opportunity for about an hour after sunrise where the Stripers were chewing. We landed this one fish and then proceeded to drop a monster over 35 lbs right by the boat after a long battle. After that it was all big Bluefish, which I’ll take any day of the week. Even they stopped chewing before too long and we spent the remainder of the day catching Weakfish ranging anywhere from tiny ones to nice 3 lb. keepers. We caught at least 2 dozen in about an hour and threw them all back. I really hope in a few years we start seeing big Weakfish again, it has been so long since I’ve caught them on a regular basis and it’s nice to see them again. I keep telling myself that “tomorrow is gonna be the day” when the Striper fishing busts wide open and it’s bound to pick up with the variety and quantity of bait around right now. We have Bunker, sand eels, rainfish, squid, sea herring, mackerel, you name it…………now we need the fish and the bait together! On a final note, i was very happy to see big Bluefish again as well, they disappeared the past few weeks.

Stripers! 10/25/13

Laura caught her first fish ever (!) and our first Striper of the Fall run today, which happens to be her birthday. She traveled up from Macon, GA to get this fish. Fishing was slow otherwise with a hard Westerly wind keeping us cold the whole day and relatively tight to the beach. All things considered it was great day on the water since we couldn’t get to fish where we wanted to and were forced to make lemonade out of lemons, but a gorgeous fish in the 30lb class made it worth the run.

Bluefish and Weakfish 10/21/13

We are catching the biggest Bluefish I’ve ever seen in my life—-every single fish is over 15 lbs and some are over 20 lbs. These fish are all being caught on AVA jigs and their mouths and bellies are filled with sand eels. I would love to see fish in this class move within surfcasting range. When I tell you that we caught over 75 fish this size today it’s not a lie–if I had to take a guess at the biggest fish I would say it was in the 22lb range. We actually had to take breaks from fishing to have a conversation or have a smoke, it was that non-stop. Great stuff. On the way there were acres of birds close to shore so of course we stopped, every drop of the jig yielded a Weakfish, half of which were keeper size. The amount of bait in the water is mind blowing, as long as we don’t have any bad storms we could be looking at an epic fall run of fish.

I had Matt and his buddies out last night for his bachelor party and we went Bluefishing. Fish were all over 10 lbs and some over 15. Great night, fun guys.

Archangel Fishing Report–wild week 8/20/2013–Fluke and Cobia

Two great photos from yesterday and today—-we caught some very large Fluke both Monday and Today and you couldn’t ask for nicer weather. When the wind starts blowing and we have a good drift, we caught a lot of fish. The highlight of yesterday’s trip was when Peter landed a keeper (40 inch) Cobia on a Berkeley Gulp tipped with a Peruvian Silverside bait. They also filled the cooler with Fluke to 6 lbs. Today had the same action for Desiree minus the Cobia, which is the first and only Cobia I’ve ever caught outside of Florida. I hope this run of nice weather holds up, it’s been flat calm out there with zero humidity and highs around 79 degrees. Gorgeous in every way!

7/15/2013 Great Fluking–Lots of fish in the cooler……..

Excellent Fluking today with our crew that came up from Charleston, SC to get in some of our great Summer Flounder fishing. We had some big Fluke come to the net today and it was a picture perfect day on the water with a light West wind. all told we had 9 fish in the cooler at the end of the trip and here’s the best part, they have to get on a flight now and I got to keep all of the fillets! All of the fish were taken on Berkeley Gulp and Peruvian Silversides. We caught a LOT of fish today and some quality fish at that………..
